Crisis at GMC Anantnag as Junior Resident Doctors Stage Pen-Down Strike Over Unpaid Salaries

Anantnag : Junior resident doctors at GMC Anantnag are currently on a pen-down strike, demanding the release of their pending salaries, which have been unpaid for the last seven months.
Dr. Nitin, a junior resident in the Ophthalmology department, expressed their grievances, stating that their salaries have not been disbursed for the past five months. Despite multiple requests to health officials, including the Principal of GMC Anantnag, their pleas have gone unanswered. The doctors have been facing severe financial hardships, unable to afford groceries or rent. As a result, they were compelled to initiate a pen-down strike at GMC Anantnag.
Another junior resident doctor, Dr. Sangram Shinde, highlighted that several junior resident doctors had come from outside Jammu and Kashmir to work at GMC Anantnag. Unfortunately, they have been working without pay for the past five months, causing significant distress. Unlike other GMCs in Jammu and Kashmir, GMC Anantnag has not released their salaries, making it impossible for them to cover rent or send money to their families. They have been forced to borrow money from local shopkeepers and friends to make ends meet.
In response to the situation, GMC Principal Anantnag, Dr. Anjum Farhat, assured that necessary steps have been taken, and she has communicated with higher officials. She stated that the doctors’ salaries will be released within the next two weeks.
