Construction work on 125 community bunkers in Kupwara, Baramulla to be completed soon: Officials

To put an end over the loss of lives and miseries facing by border residents during cross border shelling, authorities on Friday stated that construction work on 125 community bunkers in north Kashmir’s Kupwara and Baramulla districts will be completed soon.

According to reports, there has been a long pending demand of border residents who often bear brunt of skirmishes between troops of India and Pakistan. Besides the destruction of shelters, scores of lives have been consumed during the first half of 2020.

On July 23, Army claimed that Pakistani troops targeted civilian villages in forward areas along the Line of Control (LoC) during which a lady namely Hajira of Tangdar sector suffered bullet injury, who immediately was rushed to hospital where her condition is stated to be stable.

According to officials, to put an end to the loss of lives during cross border shelling there are around 85 community bunkers coming up in frontier district Kupwara. Giving a description of the project, they said among 85, 60 will come up in Karnah, 10 in Keran, and 15 to be constructed in the Machil sector which are vulnerable sectors.

They said the work on the community bunkers is about to finish and Government has more plans to construct further community bunkers in Karnah as it is a sensitive border area that often becomes the target of cross border shelling.

He also said the in Baramulla district, the construction work is going on for completion of 40 community bunkers which will come up in Uri and Boniyar. He said directions have been passed to concerned construction agencies regarding the early completion of project.

According to figures, in possession of the Army, Pakistan has resorted to over 2000 ceasefire violations in the first half of 2020.

“There have been more than 2000 incidents of ceasefire violations along LoC by Pakistani troops in first six months of 2020”, defense sources said.
