Budgam Police organised an awareness programme on “World No Tobacco Day-22”

MAY,31st : Budgam Police organised an awareness Programme on “World No Tobacco Day” at Government Degree College Magam. SDPO Magam Shri Mohammad Saleem-JKPS, Principal Government Degree College Magam Shri Mohammad Hussain, Incharge drug De-addiction & Stress Management Centre DPL Budgam Ms Insha Haasan and SHO Police Station Magam Insp.Yasir Rashid participated in the event. The programme was also attended by teaching & non teaching staff of college. A total of 100 students also participated in the event.

The main focus was intended to encourage abstinence from all forms of tobacco consumption and draw attention to the widespread prevalence of its use and its health hazards. During the deliberations the thrust was given to Socio-economic, Physical Health and Psychological effects of tobacco use.The participants were encouraged to give up tobacco use and to encourage others to do the same. An effective and simple psychological therapy for giving up tobacco use was also shared with the participants.
Some important psychiatric aspects of the tobacco on the day to day were also highlighted by the expert panelists.

The concluding remarks were given by SDPO Magam Shri Mohammad Saleem-JKPS who highlighted the ill effects of passive and active use of tobacco products. The participants vowed never to smoke and consume any type of tobacco products in their lives. Furthermore, I/C drug De-addiction & stress management centre DPL Budgam Ms Insha Hassan also threw light on some ill effects of tobacco use. Principal of the college Shri Mohammad Hussain during his remarks said that schools and colleges are the right places for raising awareness Programmes about these issues as youth is the future of any country. He commended Budgam Police for this fruitful initiative.
