Airspace North of Delhi vacated,many airports shut amid tensions
The entire airspace north of Delhi has been vacated, and at least seven airports have been shut following the IAF helicopter crash in J&K’s Budgam on Wednesday, 27 February. Himachal Pradesh, Chandigarh, Dehradun, Amritsar, Jammu, Leh and Srinagar airports have been closed for civilian flights, PTI reported.
The vacating of the entire airspace north of Delhi was confirmed to PTI by official sources.
Flightradar24,a global flight tracking service added that international flights that transit between Indian and Pakistani airspace were also being affected, and that many flights had now turned back or were looking for alternative routes.
Srinagar, Jammu and Leh airports were closed for civilian air traffic shortly after an IAF aircraft crashed in Budgam district and amid escalation of cross-Line of Control shelling between armies of India and Pakistan, PTI said. Dehradun, Chandigarh, HImachal Pradesh and Amritsar followed soon after.
