Air India Flight From Phuket to Delhi Makes Emergency Landing After Bomb Threat, A Day After Ahmedabad Crash

Bangkok, June 13, 2025: An Air India flight from Phuket, Thailand to New Delhi, India made an emergency landing on Friday morning following a bomb threat onboard, airport authorities confirmed.

Flight AI 379, carrying 156 passengers, had departed from Phuket International Airport at 9:30 a.m. local time, but shortly after takeoff, the aircraft made a loop over the Andaman Sea before returning and landing safely back at the Phuket airport.

“All passengers were safely evacuated and escorted from the aircraft in accordance with standard emergency protocols,” said an official from Airports of Thailand (AOT). No casualties or injuries were reported.

The bomb threat comes just a day after a tragic crash of another Air India flight near Ahmedabad, in which more than 240 people lost their lives, raising alarm and concern over aviation safety in the region.

While Air India has yet to comment on the latest incident, officials said an investigation is underway. AOT has not provided specifics on the nature of the bomb threat.

This incident also brings renewed focus on the growing number of hoax bomb threats plaguing Indian aviation. In 2024, Indian airlines and airports received nearly 1,000 fake bomb alerts, almost ten times more than the previous year.

The repeated security scares have prompted demands for stricter screening and threat management protocols across Indian and international flight routes involving Indian carriers.
