Mehbooba appeals LG Sinha to stop eviction of nomadic families from forest land
People’s Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti on Tuesday appealed to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to intervene in the eviction drive of nomadic people and ensure its stoppage.
Taking to micro-blogging site Twitter Mehbooba said “Disconcerting to see nomads across J&K being harassed & displaced. They’ve been the rightful inhabitants & are now being evicted on discriminatory grounds. Kindly intervene @manojsinha_ & ensure that this stops”.
Notably, the PDP President on Monday visited the upper reaches of Lidder Pahalgam and interacted with nomadic families who were evicted from their shelters (dhokas) recently by the Government during an eviction drive. She had termed the drive “illegal” and part and parcel of decisions taken on August 5, 2019.
