Police arrests man for impersonating as ACB official

Awantipora: Awantipora police on Friday have arrested a man for impersonating as Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) official.

A police official has said that “acting swiftly on a complaint received from a person belonging to village Dadsara Awantipora that one person stopped him while he was driving a car near Toll Plaza Awantipora and introduced himself as Anti-Corruption Bureau Official.”

He said that the said person had searched the complainant’s car and taken his phone number.

The official added that “later on during evening hours the said person called the complainant on phone with the intention to extort money from him.”

A police press release, related to the case, reads that “upon the said complaint Police Awantipora identified the person as Mohammad Amin Wani resident of Zafron Colony Panthachowk and arrested the person from Pampore Area.”

Case FIR number 164/2020 under relevant sections of law stands registered in Police Station Awantipora.

Meanwhile, Awantipora police requested community members “to share any such information to concerned Police Stations” and assured strict action under law shall be taken against the person involved in such criminal activities.
