9 remote villages in Anantnag District get road connectivity after over 7 decades since independence : People overjoyed.

Anantnag 26 October: 9 remote villages in the Kokernag area have finally got proper road connectivity for the first time after 73 years, since independence, in south Kashmir’s area of Anantnag District.

These 9 villages include Taspora, Waganpora, Pahalpora, Bathipora, Langipora, Khantanpora, Magraypora, Bachkaynard, Kanalpora and Gakhadpora. These villages have finally got road connectivity and are connected to the District Anantnag, said an official involved in the project. He said that the villagers got their first-ever road since independence. These villages of the Kokernag area are now connected to the rest of the district by road, which was constructed under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojna (PMGSY)

”It took 73 years to get road connectivity when there were no roads, people used to walk miles, but today we have access to public vehicles,” said,’Bilal Ahmad a local.

Bilal said that the road has resolved all our problems of commuting. ”This is a dream come true for people of the villages who have suffered a lot for lack of roads, which had made our lives difficult. The situation gets worse when there is a medical emergency. The road would herald a new dawn in our lives,” he claimed.

Another resident Nawaz Ahmad Wagay while talking to the Arising state said that these villages have witnessed several incidents in the past. ”Due to the lack of road connectivity, three pregnant women died in twin villages in 2011 because we were not able to take them to the hospital at the right time. We are overjoyed that we have now road connectivity in our village”, Nawaz said.

”These villages comprise about 900 households and more than 3,000 people living in these 9 remote villages in kokernag area have finally got proper road connectivity for the first time,and that too within a month’s time said, locals.

 People have lauded the efforts of PMGSY and the Anantnag Administration to make this project successful.
