Militant caught alive in Chadoora gunfight: IGP

Security forces apprehended one militant alive amid intense gunfight that broke out between militants and Government forces on Friday morning in central Kashmir’s Chadoora village, police said.
“One militant was caught alive during an intense gunfight in Chardoora area of central Kashmir’s Budgam district along with arms including AK-47 rifle”, IGP told local news agency.
According to police officer, the arrested militant was an associate of deserted PSO who few days back fled from the SOG camp Chadoora with 2 AK-47 rifles.
Sources said that the arrested militant has been identified as Jehangir Ahmad Bhat of Chadoora who had recently joined militant ranks. However, as per reports, the deserted SPO Altaf Hussain managed to escape from the encounter site.
Earlier joint team of Police, Army’s 55 RR and CRPF launched a Cordon And Search Operation (CASO) in Chadoora area of Budgam district after receiving specific inputs about the presence of militants.
“As the joint team of forces established the contact with hiding militants, they fired indiscriminately upon them, triggering an encounter in the area”, police official said.
He added the hiding militants were asked to surrender which they refused, however, while dealing the situation professionally, one militant was caught alive.
“The entire area is under cordon and searches are underway”, official added.
