Sgr faces 10 million gallon water shortage per day : Chief Engineer Jal Shakti

(Arising State): Srinagar District is facing a drinking water shortage of 10 million gallons per day (MGD), Chief Engineer Jal Shakti Kashmir Iftikar Ahmed said.

At many places people hit the roads, seeking regular tap water supply. When Arising State contacted Chief Engineer Jal Shakti, he said, “we have 90 MGD requirement in Srinagar, but we are running short of 10 MGD at the tail ends due to less perception and dry weather for along time. The water level in streams, other water sources, rivers have come down.”He added, “We supply water to the tail ends through water tankers. But the problem is there”. Regarding the Budbug Handwara Water plant, he said, “It has not been charged yet and once it is commissioned it will remain functional for a whole year.” (Arising State )
