Partap demands for making all VDC members permanent SPO’s, direct transfer of salary into their account
Jammu: Village Defence Committees (VDCs), which serve as ‘security arch’ to defend remote and hilly villages against terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir, on wednesday Partap Singh Jamwal (Poltical Activist) demanded for all VDC member making them permanent SPO’s and also demand direct transfer of payments into their accounts. while SPOs deserved adequate salary as well as regularization policy in view of 24 hours duty, the arrears of VDCs need to be cleared without any further delay. He added that Both SPOs and VDCs have made great sacrifices for restoration of peace and normalcy in the erstwhile UT. Partap said that there are five members in a VDC and two of its members, which are called SPOs, are getting wages at the rate of Rs 18,000 per month, but the VDC component of VDCs is not being given any salary.Partap said that 4,125 VDCs exist in Jammu and Kashmir and their work is to ensure safety and security of the identified villages along the borders as well as in interior areas and infrastructural installations in and around them.
He said that the VDCs were set up in the mid-1990s with an aim to strengthen the security of those living in remote and mountainous areas of Doda, Kishtwar, Ramba, Rajouri, Reasi, Kathua and Poonch districts.Partap were raised the voice and calling for the intervention of Lieutenant Governor into the issue.
