Tral: Gujjar Basti in Saimoh village lacks water supply, locals suffer

Tral, 20 September :The residents of Gujjar Basti in Saimoh Tral have been facing an acute shortage of water supply for many years. People living in the area are suffering in the absence of proper water supply said the aggrieved residents while speaking with Arising State correspondent.
They said that keeping in view the water crisis, they get potable water from nearby areas, which is an uphill task, especially, during bad weather or winters when their womenfolk have to walk miles to fetch water from Saimoh and Kamla villages to their houses.
They said that they have been demanding for the sanctioning of bore-well in Gujjar Basti, but officials seem to care little about the condition of residents of this area in the absence of water supply.
He said that they get water supply only once a week by a water tanker, but that’s not sufficient for the residents.
They rued that they have brought this matter to the knowledge of those concerned, but officials are not concerned about their woes a resident Muhammed Amin told Arising State.
The residents demanded that their problem should be resolved soon by approving sanction for the borewell in the village on a priority basis.
Riyaz Ahmad, Executive Engineer, Jal Shakti (PHE), when contacted, told Arising State that “the bore-well has been approved for the area and work shall be started after 15 days.”
