August 20, Tral: The main road in the Nagapathri & Wazilkulnad villages of Tral in Southern Kashmir is in a pitiable condition. Despite the fact that the road construction, under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), was started way back in 2008. However, due to the lackadaisical approach of authorities the construction of the road is still incomplete, and the dilapidated Lalpora-Nagapathri road is just a nightmare for commuters even after 12 years.
Talking to the Arising state, the locals said, ‘ twelve years have passed since the construction work of 05-kilometer Lalpora-Nagapathri road was started. However, the work was later stopped, reason better known to the concerned authorities, they said.’
‘We were happy when the road construction was initiated. The construction of the road was carried for some time but suspended soon out of blue. The authorities at a later stage restarted construction work but again stopped without any valid reason’, they said.
One of the residents Abdul Salam said that due to the pathetic condition of the road the commuters are facing inconvenience particularly at the time of emergency cases. He said the residents have been running from pillar to post pleading before authorities however, no action was taken’.He further said that they have been left at the mercy of God.
‘An official had said that they have sent a report to higher-ups for the realignment of the project …However, that also proved a mere eyewash. No need for further action was ever felt necessary,’ said one of the aghast residents of the area.
Talking to Arising State, residents of the village urged upon the higher-ups especially J&K LG Manoj Sinha and PMGSY authorities for immediate intervention into the matter.
