3 militants killed in Shopian encounter, searches on
Three militants were killed in an encounter with security forces on Saturday morning in Amshipora village of south Kashmir’s Shopian district.
An official said the encounter broke out after a joint team of Police, Army’s 62 RR and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation on specific information about the presence of militants in the area.
The official said that when the joint team of forces approached the area, the militants fired upon them resulting in an encounter. The three militants were killed during the encounter.
It is the second encounter between security forces and militants in the last 24 hours in Kashmir. On Friday morning, three Jaish militants were killed in Kashmir’s Kulgam district.
The identity and group affiliation of the slain militants were being ascertained, he said, adding the operation was continuing.
On Friday, three militants, including a top commander of Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM), were killed in Kulgam district.
At least 133 militants in different operations across Jammu and Kashmir including top commanders were killed in Kashmir this year.
Meanwhile, authorities have snapped the internet services in the area as a precaution measure.
