Another militant killed in Sopore gunfight, toll 2: Police
Two militants were killed in a gunfight with the counter-insurgent forces in Sopore area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Saturday.
A Police spokesman in a statement said, “On a credible input, a cordon and search operation was launched jointly by police and security forces in Malamapanpora Warpora area of District Sopore.”
“During the search operation, the hiding militants fired on the search party. The fire was retaliated leading to an encounter,” he said.
“In the ensuing encounter, two militants were killed and the bodies were retrieved from the site of encounter. The identities and affiliation of the slain are being ascertained,” said the spokesman.
“Incriminating material including arms & ammunition was recovered from the site of encounter,” he said.
“Citizens are requested not to venture inside the encounter zone since such an area can prove dangerous due to stray explosive materials. People are requested to cooperate with police till the area is completely sanitized and cleared of all the explosive materials if any,” said police spokesman in a statement.
