NC leader escapes unhurt, PSO killed in militant attack:Omar condemns attack on NC leader, calls it ‘dastardly’

Gunmen on Sunday evening fired at a personal security officer (PSO) of National Conference leader Syed Tawqeer in Hillar area of Kokernag in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.Officials said that the militants opened fire at Tauqeer, a former judge who resigned earlier this year and joined National Conference, came under fire from the gunmen during a party meeting. They said his PSO Riyaz Ahmedsuffered bullet injuries and succumbed to injuries later. Tauqeer escaped unhurt.
A police spokesperson said that militants fired upon a policeman on duty identified as Riyaz Ahmad and in the incident, he sustained critical gunshot injuries and was evacuated to the hospital for medical treatment. However, the injured policeman succumbed to his injuries. “We paid our rich tributes to Martyr Riyaz Ahmad who made supreme

Personal Security Officer posted with his party’s leader Syed Tauqeer in Kokernag area of Anantnag district of South Kashmir on Sunday.“My colleague from Kokernag in South Kashmir Judge (Retd) Tauqeer Sb was just attacked by militants. While he escaped unhurt his security officer was hit and killed in the line of duty. I unreservedly condemn this dastardly attack & convey my condolences to the family of the deceased,” Omar tweeted He said the security officer, Selection Grade Constable Riyaz Ahmed Khan, was posted with him for the last few
years and was killed when 3 militants attacked a party convention. “I’ve just spoken to Tauqeer Sb to convey my concern & my condolences for Riyaz’s death,” he said in another tweet.
