JRL calls for strike on Monday on Burhan Wani’s third death anniversary
Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) has called for a complete shutdown on Monday marking the third death anniversary of Burhan wani, the Hizb commander whose killing in a gunfight with government forces triggered massive protests and prolonged period of curfews and shutdowns across the valley. As many as 85 people were killed and thousands others were injured in clashes between the security forces and protesters for a period of over four months.
The JRL comprising both of Hurriyat conference led by Syed Ali Geelani and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq besides JKLF headed by Yasin Malik appealed for a complete shutdown on July 8 (Monday), according to a statement issued here. The JRL urged world powers to look in “the age old conflict which has consumed more than half a million people and still continue to suck the blood of innocents on daily basis.” “No nation can afford to lose its generations with such a fast pace and Kashmiri’s also want the resolution of this bleeding issue peacefully without further bloodshed,” the JRL said, adding, “Our youth have been forced to take extreme steps when their peaceful cries and democratic posturing was responded with brute and unmatched force.” Unending curbs on political activities, continuous detention of resistance leadership, denial of basic human values has added to the already existing political uncertainty in state, the JRL said. “Our youth are quite disheartened with prevailing situation,” asserted JRL. Praying tributes to all the Burhan Wani, JRL appealed the people of Tral and adjoining areas to pay homage to him and requested people to pay tributes to everyone killed in their vicinity, after prayers and “take pledge to carry the noble mission of martyrs to its logical end.
