District achieves 70% coverage under scheme providing Rs 5 lakh health cover to people aged 70 and above

Srinagar, October 19: Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Akshay Labroo on Monday reviewed the implementation of the Ayushman Vay Vandana Scheme during a visit to the Urban Primary Health Centre (UPHC) Lal Bazar, where he presided over an awareness-cum-registration camp for senior citizens aged 70 years and above.

Organised by the Zonal Medical Officer, Zadibal, the camp aimed to raise awareness about the scheme and facilitate registration of eligible beneficiaries to ensure wider access to healthcare benefits.

The scheme provides health coverage of Rs 5 lakh to eligible senior citizens aged 70 years and above, helping them access medical treatment while reducing the financial burden on families.

During the programme, Labroo highlighted the benefits of the initiative and urged all eligible senior citizens to register to avail themselves of the healthcare coverage.

The camp witnessed participation from elderly residents of Lal Bazar, Mandibal, Nowshahra, Botshah Mohalla, Baghwanpora and adjoining areas. The Deputy Commissioner also distributed Vay Vandana cards among eligible beneficiaries from Medical Zone Zadibal.

According to the district administration, Srinagar has achieved 70 per cent coverage under the scheme. The administration appealed to the remaining eligible beneficiaries to complete their registration and avail themselves of the benefits.

Following the camp, Labroo inspected various sections of UPHC Lal Bazar and took stock of the healthcare facilities, services and arrangements available for patients.

He was accompanied by Chief Planning Officer Fayaz Ahmad Dar, IAS probationer Aakash Garg, Chief Medical Officer Dr Tahir Sajad, and other district administration and health department officials.
