Mirwaiz placed under house arrest, barred from Khwaja Digar sermon
Srinagar, Aug 17 :Kashmir’s chief cleric Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has been placed under house arrest ahead of the centuries-old Khwaja Digar gathering at the historic Khanqah-e-Naqshband Sahib shrine here, preventing him from delivering the traditional sermon and offering prayers, according to the Anjuman Auqaf Jama Masjid.
The development came on Monday, when devotees were expected to gather at the shrine in Khwaja Bazar, Nowhatta, for the annual religious observance.
The Anjuman Auqaf Jama Masjid said Mirwaiz was scheduled to deliver a special sermon at the shrine in keeping with the centuries-old tradition associated with the Mirwaizeen of Kashmir.
