FDA conducts UT-wide food safety drive, inspects 148 food business establishments

75 food samples collected; six improvement notices issued, six FBOs fined for hygiene violations; public advised to remain vigilant during monsoon season

Srinagar: The Food & Drugs Administration (FDA), J&K conducted inspections and sampling across the Union Territory to check compliance with food safety requirements.During the drive, 148 food business establishments were inspected and 75 enforcement samples were lifted.

Further, six Improvement Notices were issued to Food Business Operators (FBOs) for deviations from hygiene and sanitary requirements. Six FBOs were compounded under Section 69 of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and a fine of ₹6,000 was imposed.In view of the prevailing rainy season, consumers were advised to use boiled drinking water, avoid pre-cut fruits and food kept  in unhygienic conditions, and ensure proper storage of food items.FDA has requested consumers to report any suspected unsafe or adulterated food product through Toll-Free Helpline No. 104 or email at [email protected].
