Rain, Thunderstorms Likely Across J&K for Next Three Days; IMD Issues Advisory

Srinagar, June 4: The Meteorological Centre Srinagar has forecast widespread light to moderate rain and thunderstorms across Jammu and Kashmir during the next 24 hours, with fairly widespread rainfall activity expected to continue over the subsequent two days.

According to the weather department, isolated thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, hailstorms and gusty winds reaching 50-60 kmph are likely in both Kashmir and Jammu divisions from June 4 to June 6. No major weather warning has been issued beyond June 6.

During the past 24 hours, maximum temperatures remained 1-3 degrees Celsius above normal at many places in Kashmir, while several areas of Jammu division recorded temperatures 1-3 degrees below normal. Srinagar recorded the highest day temperature of 29.2°C in Kashmir division, while Kathua was the hottest place in Jammu division at 38.6°C.

The minimum night temperature remained 0-2 degrees above normal at many places in Kashmir and around normal in most parts of Jammu division. Gulmarg recorded the lowest minimum temperature at 8.4°C, while Bhaderwah recorded 11.8°C in Jammu division.

The department reported light rain and thundershowers at a few places, with Gulmarg receiving 6 mm of rainfall and Bakore in Jammu recording 5.7 mm during the last 24 hours.

For Friday, the local forecast predicts generally cloudy skies with light rain and thunderstorms. Srinagar is expected to record a maximum temperature of around 27°C and a minimum of 14°C, while Jammu may witness temperatures ranging between 24°C and 35°C.

The Meteorological Department has advised residents, tourists, farmers and transport operators to remain alert and follow weather updates, particularly in areas vulnerable to thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds.
