Rain, Thunderstorms Likely Across J&K Till June 6; IMD Issues Advisory

Srinagar, June 3: The Meteorological Centre Srinagar has forecast fairly widespread light to moderate rain and thunderstorms across Jammu and Kashmir over the next 24 hours, with wet weather likely to continue for the subsequent two days.

According to the weather department, widespread to fairly widespread rainfall and thunderstorm activity is expected across the Union Territory from June 3 to June 6, after which weather conditions are likely to improve, with only isolated rainfall predicted between June 7 and June 9.

The department has also warned of isolated thunderstorms, lightning, hailstorms and gusty winds reaching speeds of 50-60 kmph in both Kashmir and Jammu divisions from June 3 to June 6. Residents have been advised to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions during the period.

During the past 24 hours, light to moderate rain and thundershowers were recorded in several parts of J&K. Arg Poonch received the highest rainfall of 57 mm, followed by Gulmarg with 16 mm and Rajouri with 11 mm.

The maximum temperature in Srinagar settled at 30.7°C, around four degrees above normal, making it the warmest place in the Kashmir Valley, while Kathua recorded 38.8°C, the highest maximum temperature in the Jammu division.

For Thursday, the MeT Department has forecast generally cloudy skies with light rain and thunderstorms in Srinagar and Jammu. The maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to hover around 27°C and 12°C in Srinagar and 33°C and 20°C in Jammu respectively.

Officials have advised farmers, travelers and outdoor workers to stay updated with weather forecasts and avoid vulnerable locations during thunderstorm activity.
