Iran foreign minister addresses UN over Minab school attack
Geneva: Abbas Araghchi addressed an emergency session of the United Nations Human Rights Council, convened at the request of Iran, China, and Cuba, following a deadly attack on a school in Minab.
During his address, Araghchi strongly condemned what he described as a joint Israeli–US assault, calling it an “illegal war imposed by two bullying nuclear-armed regimes.”
“This war of aggression is blatantly unjustified and brutal,” he said, adding that the conflict began on 28 February while Iran and the United States were engaged in diplomatic discussions over Tehran’s nuclear programme.
He further accused Washington of undermining diplomacy, stating that negotiations were “torpedoed” despite ongoing talks.
Referring to the Minab incident as one of the most tragic episodes, Araghchi alleged that more than 175 students and teachers were killed in what he described as a “calculated phased assault” on the Shajareh Tayyebeh girls’ elementary school.
The developments have intensified tensions in the region, with calls for international scrutiny and accountability growing louder.(AJ)
