Iran Criticises UN Chief Over Response to US-Israel Attacks

Share

Tehran: Iran has strongly criticised the United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres, accusing him of downplaying the human cost of the recent US-Israeli attacks on the country.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei, in a message posted on X, urged the UN chief to describe the situation more accurately, saying the conflict should not be portrayed merely as “fighting.” He said the strikes were an “unprovoked act of aggression” carried out by the United States and Israel against Iran.

Baghaei noted that the attacks occurred while diplomatic negotiations between Tehran and Washington were underway, calling it the second such assault in the past nine months during ongoing talks.

He also criticised the UN chief for focusing on potential global economic impacts rather than the civilian casualties caused by the strikes. According to Iranian officials, more than 1,100 people have been killed since the attacks began last week, including 175 children in the southern city of Minab in Hormozgan province.

The Iranian spokesperson called on the United Nations to take a clearer and stronger position on the situation, urging the organisation to fulfil what he described as its legal and moral responsibility regarding the conflict. (Press TV )
