Sopore Residents Decry Unscheduled Power Cuts, Seek Urgent Relief

Share

Sopore, Nov 21 : Residents of Zaloora village in Sopore are expressing deep frustration over recurring and unscheduled power cuts that have thrown daily life into disarray.

According to reports  electricity supply has remained erratic for days, with long outages and no fixed schedule. Locals say the frequent disruptions have made basic household functioning difficult, while electricity bills continue to arrive regularly despite the prolonged blackouts.

Abdul Gani Mir said families have been forced to depend on candles as power remains unavailable for days together, adding that repeated complaints to the department have brought no action. Another resident, Shakeela Begum, said people are spending nights moving through their homes with candles, and daily routines have been pushed into darkness.

“We’ve been without electricity for 10 days. How long will Zaloora Zaingeer suffer like this?” asked Ghulam Ahmad Lone, Vice BDC, in a post on X.

When contacted, the Executive Engineer of the Power Development Department (PDD) said the outage was caused by a damaged transformer at the receiving station. He assured that a new transformer is expected to be installed within a week, which should restore supply and meet the area’s power demand.(KNS)
