PDP Denies Eyeing NC Rift Ahead of Budgam By-Election

Share

Srinagar, Oct 22 : With a visible rift within the National Conference (NC) between MP Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi and party leadership, questions have arisen over whether the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) might capitalize on the situation ahead of the Budgam Assembly by-election. However, PDP candidate Aga Syed Muntazir Mehdi dismissed such notions, stating he has no role in the NC’s internal matters.

“It’s their own issue. Both leaders are from the NC, and whether they campaign or not is their concern. I will not interfere in their affairs,” Muntazir said.

The remarks come after NC leaders, including Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and spokesperson Tanvir Sadiq, appealed to Ruhullah to support party candidate Aga Syed Mehmood in Budgam, emphasizing his long-standing association with the NC.

Ruhullah, however, stayed away from the campaign, citing loyalty to personal principles, and traveled to New Delhi. His team later issued a notice instructing political parties and campaigners not to use his images for election purposes.

Despite his absence, NC leaders remain committed to continuing their outreach and campaign ahead of the November 11 by-election.(KNS)
