Sajad Lone Appeals for Home Custody of Ailing Shabir Shah
Srinagar, June 20: Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Conference President Sajad Lone has appealed to the administration to shift jailed Hurriyat leader Shabir Ahmad Shah to home custody, citing his deteriorating health and urgent need for medical care.
Taking to social media platform X, Lone expressed deep concern over Shah’s condition, stating, “Shabir Shah Sahib is very, very ill. He is suffering from life-threatening ailments which need medical intervention and, in all probability, surgery.”
Highlighting the emotional importance of family presence during such critical times, he added, “The best way would be to involve his family. He would want to be near his loved ones when he is wheeled in for surgery. He is more than 75 years of age.”
While acknowledging ideological differences, Lone expressed personal respect for Shah’s long-standing belief in non-violence. “I may not agree with his political ideology, but he has always believed in non-violence. He will always be dear to me,” he wrote.
In a direct appeal to the Lieutenant Governor’s administration, the JKPC leader urged compassionate intervention:
“It is my humble hand-folded request to the Office of the LG of J&K to ideally facilitate a home custody until his medical issues are sorted out. The least we can do is to have his family around him.”
