Udhampur Encounter: Fresh Gunfight Erupts as Operation Continues into Second Day
Udhampur, April 10 : Heavy firing resumed early Thursday morning in the Joffar forest area of Ramnagar, Udhampur, as security forces pressed ahead with their search operation on the second day of an encounter aimed at flushing out terrorists.
The gunfight began on Wednesday after specific intelligence indicated the presence of two to three heavily armed militants, believed to be linked to the Pakistan-based terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM).
Joint teams of the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and paramilitary forces swiftly launched a coordinated operation, trapping the group in the dense forest.
Officials confirmed that intermittent firing continued throughout the night. However, intense gunfire was reported again at daybreak on Thursday as troops advanced toward the suspected hideout.
The encounter was still ongoing at the time of the latest reports.
