In a stunning turn of events, opposition fighters in Syria have claimed victory, declaring the end of President Bashar al-Assad’s 24-year rule after seizing control of the capital, Damascus.

Reports indicate that al-Assad has stepped down and left the country. According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, his current whereabouts remain unknown.

In Damascus, a curfew has been imposed as crowds flood the streets to celebrate the fall of the government. Celebratory demonstrations have also erupted in various parts of the country.

Adding to the rapidly unfolding situation, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has announced that Israeli forces have taken control of a buffer zone in the occupied Golan Heights following the opposition’s dramatic advances in Syria.

The developments come in the wake of a lightning offensive by opposition forces, who secured key strategic cities, culminating in the capture of Damascus and the collapse of al-Assad’s government.

The international community is closely monitoring the situation as the region braces for potential aftershocks following this significant shift in power dynamics.
