Jammu, November 1 :Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary today acknowledged the challenges faced by the NC-led government but assured the public of its capacity to make impactful decisions under the Reorganization Act 2019. “Who told you we cannot take big decisions?” he asked. “There is no such restriction in the Act; we have the power to address people’s concerns on development, employment, and other pressing issues,” he stated while addressing a press conference in Jammu.Choudhary lauded the recent assembly election, emphasizing it as a landmark event for the region after years of political transition. “After so long, democracy has been restored, and an elected government is being formed in Jammu and Kashmir,” he noted.

Responding to questions about the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) celebrations around Jammu and Kashmir’s Union Territory status, Choudhary remarked, “They might be celebrating today, but deep down, they also wish for Jammu and Kashmir to regain statehood.”

On the topic of the “Darbar Move”—the biannual shift of the government between Jammu and Srinagar—Choudhary highlighted its economic importance, especially for local businesses in Jammu. He explained that the Darbar Move supports local hotels, transport services, and small businesses, providing employment for many residents. He expressed the National Conference’s commitment to sustaining the move, describing it as essential to Jammu’s economic well-being rather than a mere tradition.

The Deputy CM urged BJP leaders to reflect on their electoral promises and evaluate their achievements during their time in power. He highlighted that the National Conference, under Farooq and Omar Abdullah’s leadership, has consistently championed the people’s needs, including the call for statehood.

Choudhary affirmed the government’s commitment to addressing Jammu and Kashmir’s economic issues, meeting public expectations, and advocating for the region’s return to full statehood.
