Omar Abdullah Elected Leader of National Conference Legislature Party, Seeks Congress Support
SRINAGAR, Oct 10: In a major political move, Omar Abdullah, Vice President of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC), has been elected as the leader of the National Conference Legislature Party. The decision came following a meeting of the party’s MLAs in Srinagar today.
Expressing his gratitude, Omar Abdullah thanked the MLAs for their trust in him. “I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the MLAs for electing me as their leader,” he stated during a media interaction. He also confirmed that discussions with the Congress party were ongoing to secure their formal letter of support.
Currently, the National Conference holds 42 seats in the assembly, and with the backing of four independent MLAs, their total strength has risen to 46. “We have gained the support of four independents, bringing our total to 46,” Abdullah highlighted.
Abdullah further emphasized that once the Congress party officially provides its letter of support, the National Conference will move forward in the process of forming the government. “After we receive the letter from Congress, we will approach the Raj Bhavan to stake our claim for government formation,” he concluded.
