3,100 Water Schemes Underway in Jammu and Kashmir, All Households to Receive Tap Water by End of 2025
Srinagar, Oct 5: All households in Jammu and Kashmir are set to receive tap water by the end of 2025, with approximately 3,100 water schemes currently under execution across the Union Territory.
A senior official from the Jal Jeevan Mission mentioned that some areas in Kashmir are facing water shortages, with certain water bodies drying up due to rising temperatures this year. “All water-related issues will be addressed by the end of 2025, as over 3,100 schemes are being implemented in Jammu and Kashmir, expected to be completed by the end of next year,” the official said.
The Jal Shakti Department is tasked with ensuring the provision of safe drinking water to all human settlements, by tapping into available water sources, treating it through filtration and chemicals, and distributing it via a network of pipes.
However, officials have acknowledged the challenges of reaching every household, particularly in rural areas or those located in high-altitude regions. Reports of water shortages have surfaced from various areas.
The Jal Shakti Department has urged consumers to refrain from wasting water on activities such as watering kitchen gardens, lawns, or washing vehicles. They also advised against using online water boosters to ensure fair distribution in all areas. Residents have been provided with contact numbers to report any water shortages, and are encouraged to follow the department’s guidelines to prevent further complications.
Launched in 2019, the Jal Shakti Abhiyan is a campaign spearheaded by the Ministry of Jal Shakti to promote water conservation and water security across the country, focusing on water-stressed districts. The Jal Jeevan Mission, a central government initiative under the same ministry, aims to ensure access to piped water for every household in India.
