SRINAGAR ,AUGUST 10: In preparation for the upcoming Independence Day celebrations on August 15, the Jammu and Kashmir Police, in collaboration with other security forces, have implemented extensive security measures to ensure a peaceful and secure environment during the festivities.

The security infrastructure has been significantly enhanced, involving a comprehensive strategy that includes advanced surveillance, increased patrolling, and stringent security checks. This multi-layered approach aims to preempt and mitigate any potential threats, ensuring that the celebrations proceed without disruption.

Security officials have confirmed that authorities are coordinating efforts across various regions, utilizing both overt and covert methods to maintain public order and prevent any disturbances. This includes the deployment of additional personnel, the use of advanced technology for monitoring, and collaborative strategies involving the Police, CRPF, the Army, and the Border Security Force (BSF).

A three-tiered security system will be implemented across district headquarters, with particular focus on major cities like Srinagar. “Security arrangements have been meticulously planned, with ongoing patrolling and both covert and overt surveillance in place. We are confident that the Independence Day celebrations will proceed smoothly,” stated a senior police official.

Enhanced security measures also include intensified frisking and surveillance to facilitate the smooth movement of people and maintain public order. “In district headquarters, including Srinagar, surveillance and frisking have been stepped up to ensure the smooth flow of people,” the official added.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha is set to preside over the main Independence Day function, which will feature a series of special events organized by the Jammu and Kashmir administration.

In Jammu, security has been significantly bolstered, particularly along the borders. The Army and Border Security Force (BSF) have intensified their vigilance along the Line of Control (LoC) and the International Border (IB). “We have increased area domination and conducted thorough checks in the hinterland as part of our enhanced security arrangements,” said a senior military officer.

The Police have urged residents to cooperate with security personnel during checks and to report any suspicious activity. “We call on the public to remain vigilant and report any unusual movements or objects. Our top priority is to ensure a secure environment for all,” security officials emphasized.

Additionally, the Jammu zone police have called for heightened alertness and ‘offensive operations’ to counter potential terror threats. They have emphasized the need to strengthen border security, implement anti-drone measures, and establish joint checkpoints at vulnerable locations and inter-district boundaries.

The Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory government has issued an order requiring all government employees stationed in Srinagar and Jammu to attend the main Independence Day celebrations on August 15, 2024, at Bakshi Stadium and Maulana Azad Stadium, respectively. “Attendance is mandatory as part of official duties. Absences will only be granted with prior approval from immediate superiors,” the directive states.

Administrative Secretaries, Heads of Departments, and leaders of Public Sector Undertakings have also been directed to ensure that their staff adheres to this requirement.
