Budgam, Nov. 10 : Tourists and locals have complained about  fleecing and harassing by touts and pony walas at tourist resort Doodhpathri and have sought strict action against the unscrupulous elements indulging in this wrong practice.

They alleged that exorbitant rates are being charged for horse rides and the practice was bound to bring a bad name to the Kashmir tourist industry.

The stakeholders alleged that the tourism department and law enforcement agencies have failed to curb the menace despite being informed from time to time.

“Though it was encouraging that the tourist footfall to Doodgpathri has increased many folds this year, bringing cheers among the people but unfortunately the unscrupulous elements were playing the spoil spot. Tourists are our esteemed guests and ambassadors and they should return to their homes happy with sweet memories, not with a bitter taste,” they.

Stakeholders of the area have also urged the government to improve the basic tourism infrastructure at Doodhpathri as the existing facilities were short of meeting the basic requirements of the tourists.
