Program to celebrate International Year of Millets held at IUST
Awantipora, November 2: The Department of Food Technology, Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) organized a program to celebrate the International year of Millets with emphasis on the theme ‘Water is Life, Water is Food, Leave No One Behind’. This event was aimed to foster innovation, encourage dialogue, and inspire solutions to the complex challenges surrounding food security and sustainability.
The inaugural session of the program was presided over by Prof. Shakil A Romshoo, Vice-Chancellor IUST, who in his address underscored the collective responsibility for sustainable future for all. Welcoming the participants, Dr. Tariq Ahmad Ganaie, Head Department of Food Technology said that such programs are important to raise awareness about the significance of nutritious and sustainable food choices for our health and the planet.
The speakers deliberated on crucial issues such as sustainable food production, waste management, and the role of technology in food processing. A quiz program that witnessed participation from six institutes was also held besides a product development competition, providing a platform for students to showcase their innovative food products.
Prof Naseer Iqbal Registrar IUST and Dean SoET, Dr Ruman Bashir commended the department of Food Technology for organizing the programme. The vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Farhana Mehraj.
