Parimpora fruit mandi traders go on indefinite strike against State administrations lackadaisical approach
Sellers of fruits and vegetables in Kashmir are suffering losses as trucks bringing in supplies are being stopped frequently by security forces on the national highway. Several traders told Arising state correspondent that due to the stopping of the fruit and vegetable laden trucks by the security forces on the Jammu-Srinagar highway ,the fruit and vegetable being perishable items get spoiled even before reaching Srinagar ,which incurs a heavy loss to the traders as well as the labourers working in the mandi. The loss is not in lakhs but in crores ,said one of the traders, while expressing his concern.
Pertinently , “the traders have raised the issue with the authorities ,however, the lackadaisical approach of the administration has hardly yield any outcome till date ,said another trader., ever since the government announced ban on civilian movement on national highway twice a week,” he added.
He said that due to stopping of vehicles, the traders at Parimpora fruit mandi were losing crores of rupees every month.
In this regard, an indefinite strike has been called by Parimpora fruit mandi Association on Monday against the administration’s role in resolving the issues confronting the traders. The association carried out a protest at Parimpora mandi on Monday,in which traders demanded immediate intervention of higher ups.Notably, the valley traders are suffering, causing huge loss to the traders due to the sudden halt of supplies on the Jammu-Srinagar highway. Bashir Ahmad, president of the association, said that it was the failure of State administration that the traders have taken to the streets to raise their demands. “We suffered a huge loss as our supplies were being stopped unnecessarily on Jammu-Srinagar -highway, thus pushing the traders towards starvation,” he said. He added that not only the businessmen but the labourers working in the mandi are also facing tremendous hardships due to the halt in the trade. “The State administration must take steps to ensure the traders do not suffer and the supplies must not be stopped on the way. The pious month, Ramdhan is approaching and the vegetables must be available for the people but stopping the supplies has caused huge sufferings to the people,” he added. He said the media has played a pivotal role in highlighting the issue and people have also expressed resentment over the moves of State administration, thus, “we hope that the demands of traders will be soon meted out .”
