Srinagar-Leh road to reopen on Sunday
The 434-km long Srinagar-Leh highway, the only road linking the Ladakh region with rest of Jammu and Kashmir, will reopen on Sunday, according to sources. The road was closed in December last year. Accumulation of snow and snow avalanches delayed the reopening of the road by almost a month this year.Though the road will open on Sunday, sources said several vehicles carrying security personnel were given a passage on Friday because of Lok Sabha poll in Ladakh on Monday.A traffic police official said fresh snow avalanches at about 10 to 12 places has delayed the re-opening of the highway.Meanwhile, hundreds of vehicles, the majority of which were trucks laden with essential commodities, have already reached Gund and Sonamarg areas, awaiting the reopening of the road.
