GMC Anantnag celebrated “World No Tobacco Day” at MMABM Hospital Anantnag

Anantnag May 31: As all of you know that “World No Tobacco Day” is an important global observance that aims to raise awareness about the health risks associated with tobacco use and advocate for effective policies to reduce tobacco consumption.

It’s wonderful that the Department of Psychiatry at GMC Anantnag organized an event to commemorate “World No Tobacco Day”. The involvement of the Principal GMC Anantnag, Dr. Prof Syed Tariq Qureshi, in inaugurating the event shows the commitment of the institution towards promoting a tobacco-free environment.

Dr Mansoor Ahmad, Dr Seema Batool, Dr Afaq Hyder, Professor Sajad Majid Qazi, Professor Sheikh Mushtaq, Professor Khalil Baba, Dr Ifra among others gave mind refreshing lectures on tobacco prevention apart from making people aware about various ill effects of Tobacco consumption including it being one of the important causative agents of many Cancers.

Such events play a crucial role in educating the public about the dangers of tobacco use, encouraging individuals to quit smoking, and supporting those who are trying to quit.

The Department of Psychiatry likely organized various activities, such as informative talks, interactive sessions, and awareness campaigns to engage the participants and provide them with the necessary information and resources to make informed decisions regarding tobacco use.

By celebrating World No Tobacco Day, GMC Anantnag and the Department of Psychiatry demonstrated their dedication to improving public health and creating a tobacco-free society.

The event was attended by Medical Students, Faculty members, Consultants, Medical officers, paramedics apart from general public including many chronic smokers.

The Owais H Dar, Consultant Radiologist and media Cordinator GMCA while briefing the media said that media serves as an essential tool in tobacco awareness by disseminating information, shaping public opinion, and holding the tobacco industry accountable. Its role is crucial in empowering individuals to make informed decisions about their health and well-being, as well as in advocating for policies and measures to reduce tobacco consumption.
