Pulwama: The Jammu & Kashmir govt under Prime Minister’s Development Package (PMDP) scheme has managed to electrify many non-electrified hamlets in the valley, especially in the rural areas.

Officials sources said that in Pulwama’s Tral sub district, two tribal hamlets, named Gujjar Basti Nanar, & Gujjar Basti Gadapora have been electrified in March & April months, thereby bringing smiles on the faces of local residents.

They said that Gujjar Basti Nanar was electrified in the last week of March, while the new electric transformer was accordingly inaugurated by the ADC Tral in presence of PDD officials and locals.

On getting the electricity for first time, the locals were seen happy, and said that their children can now study up to 12 AM, while they can charge their cell phones at their homes.

Similarly, the Gujjar Basti in Gadapora village of Tral was also electrified for the first time in the first week of April, following which locals heaved a sigh of relief, and hoped that other facilities would also be given to them.

A top official in the sub district has said that they initially received the grievance about the lack of power supply in the said area, through a public outreach programme, while a Detailed Project Report (DPR) was accordingly submitted by them, after which work was approved.

The official hailed the Power Department team for taking the challenging assignment of electrifying the Gadpora Gujjar Basti, which is located on the top of village.

Junior Engineer, PDD, Tral, Harminder Singh has said that around 81 poles were installed for both LT & HT network in the area, and the work was executed in around three months.

He said that a 63 KVA tranformer was accordingly installed in the locality, from where the electricity is being given to the locals residents.

It is pertinent to mention here that two other localities in Tral Pulwama, named Gurpal in Satoora village of Aripal Tral, and Gujjar Basti in Bajwani Tral were also electrified by the administration in the year 2022.
