MeT predicts widespread rain, snow in J&K from Jan 29, issues yellow alert

Srinagar, Jan 28 : The meteorlogical department on Saturday issued a yellow warning for heavy snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir on January 30.

A meteorological department official while issuing yellow warning, said that light snow and rain was expected at scattered places in the next 24 hours. Giving prediction for next two days, he said that generally Cloudy and Light Snow and Rain at scattered places of J&K.

On 30th, he predicted widespread Moderate Snow and Rain for Jammu region with Heavy Snowfall in Pirpanjal, South Kashmir, Doda-Kistawar etc. He however said that Light to Moderate Snow/Rain at Scattered places can occur on 31th.

“May cause Snow Avalanche in Avalanche prone areas during above period. May affect Surface and Air transportation on 30th. May affect power supply,” it said.

He advised people not to venture out in Avalanche prone areas, unless emergency. “Intending passengers are advised to travel after confirmation of road status from concerned Traffic Police,” he said.
