Anantnag’s Historical Sherbag Public Park currently in a terrible state of disrepair , authorities in deep slumber

Anantnag: The Historical Sherbag Public park here in south Kashmir’s area of Anantnag town is craving for basic facilities including maintenance leaving the visitors in dismay.

The Sherbag park located near the MCCH hospital Anantnag holds the importance of having the utmost natural beauty and presently the park has turned into a garbage dumping site with no check or attention from the administration.

Expressing their serious resentment against the authorities for failing to maintain the park, the locals while talking to Arising state said that for several years this public park in the heart of the town is not maintained properly and has lost the glory it once had. The way this park was 10- 15 years back is not the same. “The fish population in the ponds has drastically decreased due to pollution and ill maintenance, they said.

If the place is left in this rotten condition, it will truly dishearten and discourage one from returning. This place can be said to be the face of Anantnag town, which has been turned into an enigma, the locals said while blaming the authorities for not taking care of it ..

Talking to Arising state Abdul Rashid a visitor said that despite the fact it is a widely used park because of the market and the district maternity hospital near it, it is not cleaned the way it should be. Chinar trees and water make this a popular resting place for people from faraway places. It was also the resting place for patients’ attendants, but unfortunately the district administration neglected the park, leaving the visitors and attendants in a bind. The place had proper washrooms initially, but with time, everything has gradually vanished as a result of a lack of care, he said.

According to residents as well as visitors of the park, they are appealing to the district administration to look into the matter and keep the park clean and maintained in the future.
