GDC Tral observes World Suicide Prevention Day
Pulwama: One-day seminar titled “Rising Trend Of Suicide: A Matter of Grave Concern“ on the occasion of World Suicide Prevention Day was held on Saturday at GDC Tral.
The seminar was organised by the Women Development Cell and CASH of the college. The seminar commenced with the introductory remarks by Prof. Syeda Laila Khalid-convener Women Development Cell. She in her remarks delineated the aims and objectives of the seminar.
Welcome address was delivered by Dr. Fahmida Wani convener CASH wherein she formally welcomed all the participants.
Worthy Principal Prof.Mushtaq Ahmad Lone in his inaugural address expressed his deep concern for the alarming rise of suicide cases and stressed the need to increase awareness for its prevention so that precious lives can be saved.
He also appreciated the efforts of the organising committee. In the technical session students from various semesters delivered presentations on the said theme.
Resource person Ms. Iqra Jan in her enlightening and informative presentation highlighted the various reasons for the alarming increase in suicide cases.
She expressed the dire need of counselling and social reforms to prevent suicide related incidents. She also urged upon the audience that how all religions and scriptures have vehemently opposed suicides and solution to prevent suicides also lie in moral education, religion and strong belief system.
In the valedictory session certificates and mementos were presented to the participants and resource person.
The program was moderated by Anisa Jan from 3rd semester and Vote of Thanks was proposed by Aisha Shafaat from 6th semester.
