International Women’s Day celebrated at KU

On the International Women’s Day, the Department of Social Work, University of Kashmir organized a oneday program in collaboration with State Resource Centre for Women (J&K) at Ibn Khaldun Auditorium, Allama Iqbal Library, University of Kashmir. The theme for the program to mark this years International Women’s Day was “Think Equal, Build Smart, Innovate for change. The program proceedings included panel discussions and speeches by various experts. A documentary on “HameriBeti” was screened which was followed by a “Signature Campaign”. Dr. Nisar Ahmad Mir, Registrar University of Kashmir , in his speech talked about the rights of women and highlighted significance of International Women’Day He assured the support of university administration in every endeavor that will promote women empowerment. Prof Asifa Jan, Dean School of Social Sciences, in her address emphasized on the need to give women equal space and opportunity in every field so that they can showcase their talent and abilities..Dr. Aadil Bashir, Co-ordinator Social Work, stressed on the need of close co-operation of various stake holders to ensure justice, equality and nondiscrimination of women in the society .He shared the findings of the research undertaken by the department on domestic Violence in Kashmir.Ms. Sameena Mir, Gender Expert in her speech deliberated upon various schemes and programs launched by the central and state Government from time to time for the up-liftment and overall development of women. Ms Muslim Jan Media Coordinator University of Kashmir emphasized upon the need of women to be strong and develop the leadership qualities .She talked about the contribution of the women in the development of the society. Javaid Rashid, Assistant Professor social work conducted the proceedings of the event.

The summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, Srinagar was yet again listed in dirtiest Cities across India with securing rank of 357, stepping down by almost 110 ranks as compared to previous year.
