Ayodhya dispute: SC gives six weeks to finalise documents
The Supreme Court conducted another hearing on the politically sensitive Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid land dispute matter, with the five-judge Constitution bench adjourning the matter for six weeks so that the parties could finalise the translations and other documents required.
The court was expected to decide on the date when the hearings will start and come up with a schedule, but this was postponed because of a dispute between the Hindu and Muslim parties over finalisation of documents.
The bench comprises Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justices SA Bobde, DY Chandradhud, Ashok Bhushan and S Abdul Nazeer.
On 27 January, the top court had cancelled the scheduled hearing for 29 January as Justice Bobde was not available that day.
Fourteen appeals have been filed in the apex court against the 2010 Allahabad High Court judgment, delivered in four civil suits, that the 2.77-acre land in Ayodhya be partitioned equally among the three parties – the Sunni Waqf Board, the Nirmohi Akhara and Ram Lalla.
