Highway closure panics valley inmates: Div commissioner says ‘no reason to panic’
The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway was again closed for traffic on Monday due to fresh landslides in Ramsoo area, leaving many vehicles stranded.
Police officials said the highway has been closed due to fresh landslide at Marog area in Ramban district.
SSP Jitendra Singh Jora said, “170 tankers have crossed Jawahar tunnel and 140 are still stranded at Ramban,he said”.However, passengers stranded on the road are safe and road clearance is underway.
Pertinently,valley is running short of petrol, diesel and LPG from past few days.
As per reports reaching Arising State ,people could be seen panic stricken following shortage of fuel ,LPG and Petrol in the valley.
According to sources,most of the petrol pumps in Srinagar city remained closed on Monday. Many private vehicles remained off the roads due to the panic among people about shortage of petrol in the valley. With the short supply, motorists’ queued in the refilling centres since Sunday.
Meanwhile ,administration is closely monitoring the situation and there was no cause for panic on account of shortage of fuels and LPG, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Baseer Ahmed Khan said on Monday, while apprising Nasir Ahmed Khan,Vice President,Kashmir Chamber of Commerce & Industry .Khan met Divisional Commissioner in his office chambers and apprised him about the problems being faced by the general public and the business community due to the frequent closure of the highway and the subsequent shortage of essentials. Baseer Ahmad Khan said that the administration was closely monitoring the situation. He stated that there was no cause for panic on account of shortage of fuels and LPG. He said that a large number of vehicles carrying Petroleum products and LPG Cylinders were stranded due to landslides near Battery Cheshma/Patnitop resulting in the running dry of petrol pumps. He said that the patch had now been cleared on war-footing and around 500 to 600 trucks carrying these essentials and food grains were on way to Kashmir. He assured that petrol pumps would be replenished soon but rationing would continue as a precautionary measure till the stocks were fully replenished. He advised the general public not to go for panic stocking of essentials as the supply would be restored to normal soon
