Kashmiri students undergoing vocational training attacked and ransacked in Chattisgarh

Kashmiri students undergoing a training programme in Raipur area of Chhattisgarh on Thursday alleged they were attacked by fellow students from Maharashtra and the locals, resulting in injuries to at least four of them. According to the reports, 34 students from Kashmir who are undergoing training under Himayat project Disha Institute of Management and Technology said they were first attacked late Wednesday evening at the canteen of the institute.

The injured students were identified as Zahid Wani from Nadihal, Mohsin and Naveed both from Pazalpora and Faisal from Putushai Bandipora. The students while describing their ordeal said that they were beaten without any rhyme and reason .While they went for dinner in the college canteen ,a group of students from Maharashtra attacked one of the Kashmiri student over a trivial issue.The rest of the Kashmiri students intervened however,the former attacked, joined by other Maharashtrian students ,who chased Kashmiri students till they reached their hostels.The Maharashtra students along with locals later ransacked their belongings and smashed the window panes of the hostel ,hurled stones resulting in injuries of four Kashmiri students.

The students said that the attackers ransacked their wardrobes, broke lockers and also threatened them with dire consequences if they stayed in the college.

They also alleged the local police didn’t cooperate with them when they informed them about the incident.

All the 34 students undergoing training at the institute hail from north Kashmir’s Bandipora district.

Police have taken cognizance of the incident and investigation is currently underway. Meanwhile, parents of these Kashmiri students urged the state government to intervene in this regard to ensure safety of their children in Chhattisgarh state.

Meanwhile ,senior Congress Leader and former MLA Bandipora Usman Majid has  urged Governor Satyapal led administration to ensure the  safety and security of the students of J&K who are studying in various states across the country. Senior PDP Leader Nizamuddin said that students who were thrashed in Chhattisgarh feel unsafe after attack by miscreants. He said that he has appealed Governor Administration to intervene in the matter and ensure such incidents don’t happen in future.
