Covid-19: Positivity rate declines to 5.86% in Ladakh

Leh has 7.12%, Kargil 3.19% positivity rate

Leh: After registering a steep rise in the COVID-19 cases in the region, the cold desert Ladakh has started to witness a sharp decline in positive cases and deaths in the ensuing month with figures reducing down to double figures with a significant improvement in the overall situation.Ladakh comprising two districts including Leh and Kargil witnessed a sharp rise in the COVID cases forcing authorities to go for lockdown with Leh most affected in the last two months.The twin districts of Ladakh registered a total of 126 COVID-19 positive cases of which 103 cases were reported in Leh alone and only 23 in Kargil between 21-27  June in the ensuing month while no death was reported in the region.The figures reveal the region has reported a total of 19,964 cases so far of which 3490 were reported in Kargil and 16,474 in Leh district alone while the total active cases have come down to 281 which comprise 229 in Leh and 52 in kargil.The positivity rate in the region has witnessed a sharp decline and come down to only 0.90 percent on June 27 while the district-wise break up is 0.28 percent in Kargil and 1.34 percent in Leh, reveal the figures.Figures reveal that the recovery rate has also shown significant improvement in the past so many days and the recovery rate in the region has jumped to 97.58 percent with a 97.74 percent recovery rate in Leh where a total of 16,101 patients have recovered while 3,380 patients have recovered in Kargil taking the rate to 96.85 percent in the district.About the death rate in the region, figures reveal that a total of 202 COVID-19 positive patients have died due to the virus in Ladakh of which 144 are from Leh alone taking the overall fatality rate in the district to 0.87 percent and 1.86 percent in the Kargil district with regions overall percentage maintained at 1.01 percent.The figures reveal that the total positivity rate in the Union Territory of Ladakh has come significantly come down to 5.86 percent and the twin districts compromising of Leh and Kargil has 7.12 and 3.19 percent of positivity rate.A senior health official in the region said that Leh district witnessed a maximum number of cases and deaths due to the virus. He maintained that the vaccination drive is going at a good pace across the region with authorities nearing the target.Notably, authorities in mid-April stated that the maximum positive cases in the region were outsiders including labourers and tourists following which the entry to Ladakh was restricted to those having negative RT-PCR test not older than 96 hours.Phased manner lockdown was announced in the twin districts as a preventive measure to contain the spared of Coronavirus in the region.In recent days after the significant improvement in the overall situation, the authorities have further eased the restrictions in the twin districts of the Ladakh region
