Srinagar May 1 : The Jammu and Kashmir administration is in process of vaccinating all eligible people of J&K including prisoners.

Advocate General D.C. Raina informed the Jammu and Kashmir High Court on Friday.

Raina informed a division bench comprising Chief Justice Pankaj Methal and Justice Rajneesh Oswal who heard the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) regarding vaccination to all prisoners.

“We are aware of the fact that all prisoners have the right to life. The Jammu and Kashmir administration is in the process of vaccinating everyone”, he added.

The bench disposed of the petition and asked the petitioner to make a formal representation to the Director-General, Prisons, on the Vaccination of prison inmates.

The lawyer who filed the petition argued the prisoners were being denied vaccine and access to the mandatory Co-WIN application for registration.

“Undertrials, offenders and detainees, although eligible for the vaccine, have been denied access to the vaccine and do not yet have access to the mandatory Internet-based application,” he added.
