Mehfil-i-Mushaira cum Short Story Reading programme held in GDC Tral

Tral, 13 March: Department of Kashmiri in Government Degree College Tral in collaboration with Maraz Adbi Markaz Sangam organized a Mehfil-i-Mushaira cum Short Story Reading programme on Saturday in the Mini auditorium of the College.

The programme formally started with welcome address by the worthy Principal of the college, Prof. (Dr.) Bashir Ahmad Mir.

In his speech, Prof. B.A Mir highlighted the role and importance of such programmes for preservation of language and culture.

He said that “we are Kashmiris, because of Kashmiri Language, if we don’t continue to retain it as the mother tongue, the days are not far when this language will die.”

The first segment of the programme commenced by a short story reading by Ms. Uzma Quadir (5th Semester Student), while the session was chaired by Mr. Mohammad Shafi Ayaz.

A descriptive critical analysis of the short story by Dr. Arsheed Ahmad Malik (Assistant Professor Kashmiri) was done in a scholarly fashion, who also conducted the proceedings of this segment.

The second segment of programme was based on poetry reading by different poets of the valley.

Umar Fayaz, Parveez Gulshan, Muzafar Dilbar, Mohammad Shafi Ayaz, Gh. Hassan Lonepoori, Izhar Mubashir, Riyaz Anznu, Gh. Mohammad Lalu, Sikandar Irshad, Nadir Ahsan, Kifatullah Roshan Khayal presented their recent poetic writeups. This segment was moderated by Mr. Sikandar Irshad.

A galaxy of eminent personalities from across the valley graced the occasion, with a good number of students also participated and enjoyed the programme.

Mr. Gh. Mohammad Lalu, Chair of the session while presenting his presidential remarks appreciated and thanked the college administration for all arrangements and expressed his hope for conduct of such programmes in future as well.
