Pampore: Crushers, Quarry associations stage protest, demand lifting of ban on stone quarry
BASHARAT RASHID
Pulwama, 4 March: The members of Crushers and Quarry associations on Thursday held a protest demonstration at Wuyan village of Pampore, demanding a lift of a ban on stone quarry.
Under the banners of All stone crushers association and All quarry association, the members were chanting slogans amid demanding justice to the affected people.
They said most of the people in the Wuyan area are engaged in this occupation for a long period of time, due to which ‘ban on it’ will create only problems for the people who are associated with this trade.
One of the protesting workers said that many of them have bought tippers on loan and have to repay it through installments every month.
He said that under the ban orders on stone quarry, “it becomes very hard for the drivers to repay the bank installments, due to which they are helpless.”
He further said that their families suffer, and added that they were even ready to pay the royalty tax.
The workers have demanded that the ban on stone quarry work should be lifted by the government at the earliest.
